Message from the President

The Health of The Bar Association

I am honored to serve as the 94th President of the Camden County Bar Association and I look forward to a successful and vibrant year!  Now more than ever, we are all focused on our health.  We too at the Bar Association are focused on your health – the health of our members, the health of our community, the health of our partners in progress, advertisers and vendors – as well as the health of our staff! We are all taking it day by day, and that is all we can really do. Many of us have found the time to revisit activities that we did not have time for – such as cooking, reading, getting outside for a walk or run, arts and crafts, being of service to the community, listening to music, playing a game, and spending time with our families. We improve our health if we stay in the moment, rather than worrying about the implications of the past, or feeling anxiety about possible future events that may affect us, our jobs and our relationships.  Of course, we all should be planning for the future and we are no different here at the Bar Association!

Over the course of the last two and half months, we have reformatted many of our planned in-person seminars to continue as webinars conducted by Zoom.  We added webinars focused on the impact of COVID-19, such as:

  • Mindfulness for Lawyers held on May 6
  • 7 Ways to Pivot Your Business in a Pandemic held on May 21
  • Navigating a Pandemic held on May 28

Recordings of these webinars can still be downloaded for CLE credit on the Bar Association’s website www.camdencountybar.org.  Our upcoming webinars include:

  • Criminal Defense in the Pandemic and Post-Pandemic World scheduled for June 10
  • COVID-19 Families in Crisis: Custody, Domestic Violation and Unpaid Support scheduled for June 16
  • Remote Depositions scheduled for June 23

The Bar Association is also now an approved provider of Pennsylvania CLE credits for webinars!

We sent out our annual Dues Membership notices and provided a discount for any member paying their 2020-2021 dues by May 31. We need you now more than ever!

Many of our committees continue to meet virtually including the Young Lawyer’s Committee and the Debtor-Creditor Committee. If you would like to participate in any of our committees, or are interested in co-chairing a committee for the 2020-2021 year, please reach out to me or the staff at the Bar Association!

The Bar Association has also been in constant communication with the Judiciary in Camden to relay updated Court information and ensure the health of the Bench-Bar relationship. If you have missed any of the local court updates you can still find the links on the Bar Association’s website. Unfortunately, we have had to cancel or reschedule some of our dinners and other events, but we know that there will come a time when we will all be able to gather together again! We are working to bring some of these events to our members over the summer or in the fall.

As we navigate our way back to “normalcy,” we will be taking measures to ensure that our staff and our members remain safe – whether it be at Bar Headquarters or at any of our in-person events.  Remember, the Bar Association is dedicated to your health and we know that we are stronger, together!
