PARALEGAL POSITION – CAMDEN COUNTY SURROGATE’S COURT
The Camden County Surrogate’s Court, located in Blackwood, New Jersey, is seeking a paralegal with a minimum of five (5) years working experience with preference given in the areas of probate, family, and/or guardianships. All applicants should have completed an Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies. The paralegal will work closely with our in-house legal counsel in reviewing probate and guardianship pleadings which are filed in the Surrogate’s Court as Deputy Clerk of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Chancery Division – Probate Part. The paralegal will also be responsible for analyzing and processing materials in relation to mandated guardianship monitoring. The paralegal will work in a supervisory role of the probate clerks in reviewing Surrogate’s Court probate applications. There is a huge potential for further growth in this position. Applicants must possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills, have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, can process often very complex fact patterns, be detailed oriented and organized. CLERK POSITION – PROBATE ASSISTANT – CAMDEN COUNTY SURROGATE’S COURT
Assists the Surrogate, Deputies, and Probate Clerks by performing varied typing and clerical work in the preparation of various documents, legal forms, certificates, and exemplified records concerning the probation of wills and administration of estates; may take the lead in a small clerical unit; does other related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

May prepare estate, guardianship, administration, and adoption papers.

Prepares Surrogate’s certificates and letters of trusteeship, administration, and guardianship.
Assembles and prepares documents and forms on appeals and consolidations.

Makes docket entries, and assists or directs attorneys and others searching records and papers on file. Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

REQUIREMENTS:

EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of clerical experience in working with legal papers and documents used in the courts.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Ability to perform moderately difficult clerical and typing work.
Ability to comprehend established office routines, rules, and regulations pertaining to probate practices and procedures. Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
